The article referred to statistics published by Qunar- the largest Chinese language based travel website around. According to Qunar the Maldives is among the top five of most searched island destinations by Chinese.
Its expected that Chinese tourist numbers will rise during the coming days as the Labour holidays are fast approaching.
According to the South China Morning Post article “Often called a paradise on earth, the Maldives is another top choice among mainland travellers for weddings and honeymoons.”
The article forecasts that over 400000 tourists are expected to visit the Maldives this year. In recent years, China has overtaken European countries as the main contributor to the Maldives tourism industry.
