Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) has officially handed over the new seaplane terminal to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). The new seaplane terminal has a total floor area of 28,000 square meters and features complete water facilities.
According to Xinhua, Deputy Chief Officer at MACL Mohamed Solah stated that the Chinese contractors have overcome challenges posed by the pandemic, and ensured the timely completion and commissioning of the project on 4th August.
In addition to the new seaplane terminal, BUCG completed the construction of Madivaru Airport in February 2021.
The newly constructed seaplane terminal cost the government USD 55 million (MVR 848 million). Previously, MACL stated that the state-of-the-art seaplane terminal will be durable and usable for a period of over 50 years without the need for any major construction-based renovations.
