Travellers from South Asia Can Finally Visit the Maldives from 15th July 2021



The Maldives’ Ministry of Tourism has announced that travellers from South Asia can finally visit the tropical holiday destination from 15th July 2021. According to a circular by the Tourism Ministry, tourists travelling from South Asian countries will be issued on-arrival tourist visa, tentatively from the 15th of this month.

In addition to that, work permit holders travellers from South Asian countries can enter the Maldives from 7th July 2021. They will need a negative PCR test taken 96 hours before departure from the first embarkation point. Likewise, work permit holders will need to quarantine for 14 days upon arriving in the Maldives.

The ministry has also revealed that quarantine exemption is now eligible for locals who tested positive for COVID-19 and recovered within 60 days.

Travellers from India has specifically been waiting for the Maldives to restart issuing visas to them. For most of 2021, India has been the Maldives’ leading tourist source market alongside Russia. Likewise, the Maldives is a popular hotspot for Indian celebrities.
