New Hotel in Maldives capital Maagiri opens
Maagiri Hotel, a new tourist hotel in Maldives capital Male, has opened.
The 53-room hotel, located opposite of Hulhumale ferry terminal on Boduthakurufaanu Magu, was inaugurated Thursday morning by shareholders of parent company Regent Maldives, a consortium of renowned local businessmen. They include Director of Crown Company Ahmed Nazeer, Directors of Lily Hotels Ahmed Hafeez and Abdul Muhsin, and former First Lady Naseema Mohamed.
Maagiri Hotel offers four categories of rooms: six Executive Suites, six Junior Suites, 20 Premier Ocean View Rooms and 20 Premier Rooms.
There is a restaurant with a capacity of 100 guests, another with a capacity of 62 guests, and a cafe. Guests can also hold meetings in the dedicated meeting rooms or hold special functions at the banquet hall. There is also a rooftop gym.
The hotel has historic ties to the introduction of tourism to the Maldives, as it is situated on the land plot that housed Maagiri, the residence of former First Lady Naseema. The house provided lodging for the first group of tourists that arrived in the Maldives in 1972.
Maagiri Hotel joins the few upscale tourist hotels in the capital city, including Hotel Jen, Champa Centra Hotel and the historic Nasandhura Palace Hotel, which is currently being reconstructed.
